Postpartum Services

Bringing your baby home is one of the most wonderful feelings in the world, but for many parents, it can also be one of the most challenging.

Studies have shown that women who have social support during the postpartum period tend to have less postpartum depression, breastfeed for a longer duration, and make a better adjustment to parenthood. The care and support I will offer you is based on you and your family’s individualized and specific needs.

Client Love Notes

I am so grateful for having Shannon as my postpartum doula. She was there for me when I had doubts and concerns and gave me really good advice on what to do. I look forward to having her as my doula for my second child as well. I am highly satisfied with her service. She was very friendly and we were able to communicate with no trouble.

As a mother of one adopted son (who is now 3.5 year’s old), I thought we would be fully prepared for our second newborn adoption.  However, when we received the phone call from the adoption agency stating the birth mom who had chosen was expecting TWINS due in less than three months, I immediately felt overwhelmed and knew I needed support.

From the moment we met Shannon, we knew we could trust her, and she was the perfect fit!  Shannon’s warm, gentle, and intelligent personality provided us with great comfort from day one.  Professionally, she is incredibly experienced and has a wealth of knowledge.  Being a mom of twins herself, Shannon provided me with guidance and advice up until the babies were born and was a part of the in-home care team immediately after the twins came home from the hospital (after spending time in the NICU due to their premature delivery).  Having premature babies was a struggle within itself however with Shannon by our side every step of the way provided great security and peace of mind (and sleep!).  Shannon assisted us in overnight care for 12 months and by the end of our time with her, Shannon had established routine feedings, naps, baths, playtime, etc. leaving us feeling confident and experienced parents of twins.

It is with great pleasure that we recommend the services of Shannon at Holding a Mother’s Hand.  We could not have done it without her, and she is always welcome in our home.

Shannon was our doula throughout my first pregnancy and birth. She was so caring and gave great advice and information on evidence-based techniques during my pregnancy to make it easier. When I went into active labor, she met me at my house and began giving so much support. I chose a natural birth in a birthing center, and she provided a lot of encouragement. I don’t think I could have done it without her! I remember saying that I couldn’t do it anymore a few times, and she was an additional voice telling me that I could. Baby was OP throughout most of my labor, and she had great techniques to try to get her to turn over the right way. We hope to work with Shannon again in the future when we are ready to expand our family!
